How often should you ACTUALLY wash your hair?
That age old question… And EVERYONE has a opinion. So exactly how often should you wash your hair? We are weighing in.
Well, gang, it turns out the frequency of your hair washing habits should be dependent upon your hair type/texture/condition.
So how do you know what type of hair you have?
The Strand Test will tell you how thick your hair is.
Take one hair between your fingers. If you can’t feel it, your hair is fine. If you CAN fee it your hair is medium… And if it feels coarse, well then hotdamn girl, your hair is thick!
And what about condition?
To check this, you can take the Stretch Test. Again taking a single hair between your fingers, stretch it out.
Does it break immediately? Your hair isn’t as healthy.
Does it stretch to about 50 per cent of its original length? Your hair is pretty healthy.
Ok now we’ve got that out of the way, what should you do for your hair?
FINE HAIR
Hair expert Michael Van Clarke told Harpers Bazaar those with fine hair should be shampooing on the daily.
"This is because people with finer hair have more oil glands on their scalp, and their hair therefore becomes greasy faster."
MEDIUM HAIR
Apparently you should wash your hair every OTHER day if you rock medium locks. Espesh if you live in the city.
THICK HAIR
Celeb hairdresser Adir Abergel recommends NOT washing your hair for a long time is bad for the long term.
"You should wash your hair regularly to remove impurities and product build-up. And let’s not forget that your scalp is skin, and just like pores, product buildup can clog your hair follicles. Wash your hair at least a couple of times a week."
Afro hair should be washed every two weeks or so, at a max.
And it also depends on lifestyle… Do you go to the gym every day? You’ll probs wanna be washing your hair a bit more regularly.
Got a sensitive scalp? Washing more regularly is an effective way of keeping the itch at bay.
You’re welcome.
